Road Safety

Given that the clocks will go back this weekend and that the nights are getting darker much earlier, please can I ask you to spend some time discussing the importance of road safety with your children.

Pupils should not assume they have been seen by drivers and, where possible, should always cross at designated crossing points.听 Children coming to school on bikes, should take care and remember how important it is to wear a helmet.

Can I also take the opportunity to ask you to remind them about always being respectful when cycling, and to be considerate to pedestrians and other road users.

Thank you!

Uniform Expectations

Now that it seems we have truly entered the Autumn months, I wanted to take the opportunity to ask you to please remind your child(ren) of our expectations around uniform.

Pupils are expected to wear full school uniform, including a school jumper.

Hoodies (including those with the Sweyne Park logo) are not permitted nor should sweatshirts or coats be worn anywhere inside the school building, but rather stored away in lockers or bags.

Finally, a reminder that pupils should not wear white socks, any knee length socks, non-stud earrings or rings.听 Please click here to view our school Uniform Policy in full.

Library Annual Poetry Competition

Well done to everyone who submitted a poem in the Library鈥檚 Annual Poetry Competition 鈥 you have all received positive points!

As difficult as it was to choose, we have found our winner and runner up!

Congratulations to this year鈥檚 winner, Imogen (Year 8) for her fantastic series of Haiku on each of the planets. A haiku is a poem of three lines with the first and last lines containing five syllables with the middle line containing seven syllables. We loved the imagery and complexity of Imogen鈥檚 poems and that each planet had its own Haiku poem.

Narrowly missing out on first place is our runner-up, Megan (Year 7) for her highly entertaining poem, Cow on Mars, which had us laughing out loud at the antics of Nathan, the cow, and how he ended up on Mars!

Prizes of Amazon vouchers, books and sweets were awarded to them both.

Halloween Lyrics – Ben Year 7

Verse 1:
People carrying bags of sweets,
Because it is trick or treat.
People feeling really scared,
Cobwebs hanging everywhere!
People dress up as monsters,
And do cool activities!

Chorus:
Pumpkins sitting on people鈥檚 doorsteps,
Ghosts haunting your nightmares.
Skeletons dotted here and there,
Zombies linger everywhere!
Spiders hang from trees and
Witches do what they please!
Because it is trick or treat!

Verse 2:
Lightning flashes,
Thunder booms,
Because it鈥檚 Halloween,
(The scariest night of the year!)
The wind howls like a werewolf,
And the rain pours on you!

Verse3:
People get stuck in mazes,
People carve out pumpkin faces.
People make toffee apples.
For it is Halloween,
(The scariest night of the year!)

Chorus:
Pumpkins sitting on people鈥檚 doorsteps,
Ghosts haunting your nightmares.
Skeletons dotted here and there,
Zombies linger everywhere!
Spiders hang from trees and
Witches do what they please!
Because it is trick or treat!

Verse 4:
But it鈥檚 the end of Halloween,
And everyone starts going to bed.
The Zombies drag their feet away.
The spiders retreat to their webs.
Pumpkins bounce away,
Witches fly into the sky,
But the skeletons stay where they are,
Ready for next year鈥檚 Halloween!
