Cyber Security

Given how much of our lives are now lived online, cyber security is crucial to all our lives. In order to support families, Internet Matters has produced a series of resources to help us all to understand this often very complex area. The link below will take you to a page containing the resources:

Online Tutors

Many families will, at some point in their child’s education, seek a tutor to help them with a particular aspect of their learning.Ìý Up until the last 5-10 years, this would normally take place in the child’s home, with parents/carers in the home able to exercise informal supervision.

Today, it is much more common for tutoring to be online, and this has many benefits.Ìý For example, language tuition can be sourced from native speakers who live abroad, or specialist tuition from PhD students who are conducting research at a university.

However, a child receiving online tuition alone in their bedroom introduces a vulnerability that previously did not exist into extra tuition.

For your information, London Grid for Learning has produced an advice sheet for parents/carers who are using online tutors: Ìý

Bringing Banned and Barred Items into School

Please can I remind you that we take a very strong stance on pupils who bring anything into school listed in Appendix 3 of our Behaviour Policy.Ìý

This week we have had a few incidents whereby young pupils have brought in toy weapons which are also prohibited and will be confiscated.Ìý

And Finally…..

Next week is our final week before we break for the half-term when we will finish at the usual time of 3.05pm.Ìý

Trip to Thorpe Park

The pupils thought it was a great experience. They would like me to try and rerun it next year, for other pupils to experience.

We got to see robots in action, create our own wooden robots, and engage in insightful conversations with STEAM experts.

It was a fantastic blend of hands-on creativity and expert knowledge, making it both fun and educational. Making them think of potential career pathways.

A lot of them showed bravery going on Hyperia!

Design a Science Waistcoat competition

In collaboration with the World Snooker Tour and Johnstone’s Paint, Stem are offering young people, between the ages of 11 and 14, an exciting opportunity to design a waistcoat that will be worn by a top snooker player during the Johnstone’s Paint Masters at Alexandra Palace. The winning design will be showcased live on the BBC in January 2025.

The Science Waistcoat Design Competition invites young people to create a waistcoat and share their scientific inspiration behind the design. They could draw or paint the design on the template.

The closing date is 4 pm 7 November 2024.
