Parking safely around the school

Further to my comments in last week鈥檚 Sweyne Park Times, I wanted to remind parents/carers of the need to park with care and consideration around the school site, especially in the bus bay in relation to which we have received further reports of 鈥渘ear misses鈥 this week.

It is imperative that parents/carers park in such a way as to minimise the danger to our pupils.

This also serves to ensure that our neighbours are not inconvenienced.

Smart Phones

You may have seen in the news this week the interesting report about the use of smart phones by children and the decision by a group of around 60 schools in North London to ban these due to the growing number of associated risks and issues stemming from using these.

This coincides with their 鈥淪martphone Free Childhood (SFC)鈥 pledge encouraging parents to delay providing their child with a smart phone until at least 14. Whilst this is ambitious and we do not plan to change our current policy we do find ourselves dealing with a rising number of unpleasant incidents which take place outside of school involving younger pupils accessing platforms and apps e.g. TikTok which are age restricted.

This seemed an appropriate time therefore to remind you as parents to check exactly what your children are viewing/accessing for communication and to ensure it is suitable.

The world of social media is really risky when there are no proper and responsible checks in place and access is not restricted or, at least, monitored.

Year 9 ‘Golden Ticket’ Rewards

Year 9 have been trialling the new 鈥楪olden Ticket’ rewards, where tutors have been asked to award one pupil a week the ‘Golden Ticket’ to recognise their outstanding character.

The categories are chosen from our Character Education acronym, RESPECT (Resilience, Empathy, Self- Awareness, Perseverance, Emotional intelligence, Courage, Truthfulness).

Students receive additional positive points and most importantly, entered into a prize draw to be revealed at the end of the week.

This weeks nominees were:

Flynn for empathy

Isabella for perseverance

Theo for resilience

Cade for perseverance

Rosie for courage

Alayna for truthfulness

Nifemi for emotional intelligence

Well done to all these students in showing outstanding character and in being recognised for contributing to the school community in such an important way.

Moot Court Preparation Evening

On Monday 23rd of September Daisy, Melissa and Kessia attended a Moot court preparation evening.

The evening allowed students to analyse real legal documents and apply them to real life situations. This evening was really useful for Daisy, Melissa and Kessia because it taught them how to build a strong case in contract law based around the sale of a car using teamwork and discussion.

They then argued the case they put together amongst others. The evening gave an insight into preparation for court and what a job in law would entail as a career for them.

Daisy, Melissa and Kessia did an amazing job at representing the school in such a positive way throughout the event and also did really well in the event itself preparing them for the first stage of the competition later in October.
